Amorim says his side ‘played like Brentford wanted’ as Man Utd suffer another defeat | OneFootball

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim says his side “played the game like Brentford wanted to play” in their 3-1 defeat at the Gtech Stadium.

A double from Igor Thiago and late Mathias Jensen goal secured three points for the Bees.

Benjamin Sesko had scored to bring the score back to 2-1 before Bruno Fernandes missed a penalty with the chance to level the score at 2-2.

But Amorim says his side were never in control of the match.

“It’s always the same, when we win it’s not the system, when we lose it’s the system,” Amorim said when asked about his tactics. “I understand that.

“I think it’s more that we played this game like Brentford wants to play this game, with long balls, second balls and we never settle down our game. We never play our game, we never push the opponent and then we knew that every time they recover the ball they will make a run and they will fight for the ball.

“We suffered two goals like that, we managed to score one goal and then in the second half I think the penalty could change things. But overall view of the game, we never settle down into long possessions, long control of the game, we’re never there, so we lost.”

Amorim also spoke of his frustration at the goals conceded, insisting they worked on those situations in training.

“We work on everything, the frustration is that every goal, the goals today we work on that during the week, that is frustrating,” he said.

“We can do better with the ball, we can have more control, we can understand that sometimes when the decisions are not in your favour, the momentum is not in your favour. We can control the ball, we can settle down the game and that is something that I know this team can do.”
