Carlo Ancelotti fought back tears as he bid farewell to Real Madrid fans following his final match, as he prepares to take on a new role as coach of Brazil. ‘I love you all, with all my heart.’
The Italian tactician was in his second different stint at the Bernabeu, having previously been on the bench from 2013 to 2015, then returning in the summer of 2021.
He amassed an extraordinary trophy cabinet with the club, including three editions of the Champions League, two Club World Cups, two Liga titles, the Intercontinental Cup, two Copa del Rey victories, two Spanish Super Cups and three UEFA Super Cups.

It was also an emotional evening in Madrid because the 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad also represented the final game for midfielder Luka Modric.
There were huge banners in the stands thanking them both for their service to the history of the club.
Toni Kroos, who had retired last summer, made his return to the stadium to welcome Modric off the field during a four-minute standing ovation.

After the final whistle, a video played in the stands showing his greatest moments at the club, then Ancelotti took the microphone and spoke to the crowd, fighting back tears.
“It has been an honour and a pleasure to coach this team,” said the Italian.
“First of all, I want to thank my dear President, Florentino Perez. It has been fantastic to coach this group of players and share all these moments with you.
“Nobody will ever forget the comeback against PSG, Rodrygo’s two goals or Modric’s assist, and Joselu’s two goals against Bayern Munich. I cannot forget every day I spent here.
“I will conclude with nothing but Hala Madrid. I love you all, with all my heart. Ciao.”
