According to Diario Do Peixe, Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday that Neymar is close to the next step in his Brazil recovery, with a new MRI on Saturday that could clear him to join group training next week.
He noted the forward has been doing strong individual work and could join the group next week if all goes well.
Brazil’s staff view the No 10’s progress as positive, with daily responses said to be ahead of expectations for this stage after a right calf injury.
Since reporting to camp on 27, Neymar has followed an intense plan, including two gym sessions a day with load control, strength work and physiotherapy, plus a third recovery block using compression equipment and other available tools.
He did not travel to Cleveland for the friendly against Egypt on Saturday 6, the CBF kept him in New Jersey to continue his physical and physiotherapy programme without breaking the plan.
Should he be cleared, the next phase would be a physical transition on the pitch, then ball work with team-mates.
The expectation remains to have Neymar at the World Cup, with the most optimistic scenario pointing to minutes in the opener against Morocco on 13, a more conservative outlook targets a return against Haiti in match two. Given the demands on the calf in football, staff remain cautious and say he will only be cleared once fully recovered.
