Paolo Maldini has recently confessed that he spoke to Carlo Ancelotti regarding the vacant Italy national team head coach before holding discussions with Pep Guardiola, but the latest updates confirm that the former Real Madrid tactician will not be leaving his role with Brazil any time soon.

Ancelotti not expected to leave Brazil for Italy

Italy’s search for a new permanent head coach of the men’s national team continues: Friday’s reports indicate that Guardiola has said no to the opportunity of taking over as CT, which leaves the FIGC looking at a list of potential alternatives including Andrea Pirlo, the new frontrunner.

Speaking in front of the Lega Serie A on Thursday, Maldini admitted that he and FIGC advisor Leoonardo had spoken to Ancelotti regarding his availability before holding talks with Guardiola last weekend.

“We cannot deny that we also spoke to Carlo Ancelotti before talking to Pep, and it felt only right to start with those we considered to be the best in the world. So we needed to get a general idea of their availability.”

However, back in May, Ancelotti signed a new contract with the Brazil national team, which will see him through until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

The latest updates from Fabrizio Romano confirm that Ancelotti is fully committed to leading Brazil into the next Copa America tournament in 2028 and that he is also planning to still be in charge of the Selecao for the 2030 World Cup, which rules out any possibility of him taking over in the Italy hot seat any time soon.

For now, the next name that Maldini and Leonardo are expected to turn to is Andrea Pirlo according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
