Boca have been dealt a setback amid recent positives, with Ander Herrera suffering a left hamstring tear in the warm-up before facing Defensa y Justicia. Tests this morning confirmed the injury, leaving the 36-year-old facing about 21 days of recovery.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the Spaniard felt discomfort in his left adductor during the pre-match routine and immediately halted his activation, alerting the fitness coach to inform the staff.
Claudio Úbeda and Juvenal Rodriguez then decided he would not start, with Milton Delgado stepping in despite having been earmarked for a rest.
The lay-off arrives as Boca enter a decisive spell, with Copa Libertadores progression to be settled and the Apertura entering its final stretch. Although not a regular starter, Herrera has been an important option in the rotation.
Boca have already turned to Cruzeiro after a 4-0 win at Defensa y Justicia in Florencio Varela. They are due to travel to Brazil on Monday for Tuesday’s match at Mineirao in Belo Horizonte, scheduled for 28 April at 21:30. They will seek a result to move them close to the next round.
