Bournemouth confirmed on Tuesday that head coach Andoni Iraola will not continue next season. The club said in a statement that the 43-year-old would not renew his contract after months of negotiations.
In a farewell message, he called it an honour to manage the club, expressed pride in their work and thanked the players, staff, Bill and the supporters. He felt it was the right moment to step away and will treasure his memories of the club.
Attention now turns to Athletic Club, where Iraola is regarded as a club legend. Ernesto Valverde will not continue next season, so the 2026/27 dugout is vacant and the Basque side can move for Iraola.
A switch to a Premier League giant is considered less likely, though not impossible. Manchester City and Arsenal have been mentioned, and their managerial positions are not guaranteed. Either role would represent a major step for Iraola.
Iraola’s Bournemouth tenure has boosted his standing in Europe, built on intensity, a high press and a bold style that revitalised the team. After a demanding start he steered them away from relegation danger and competing with richer rivals, reinforcing the reputation he forged at Rayo Vallecano.
