Andre Onana has quickly settled into life in Trabzon, but he is still on Manchester United’s books.
Onana was viewed as United’s number one goalkeeper ahead of the new season. However, he left Ruben Amorim unimpressed with his antics in pre-season, leading to a drastic change in his situation.
Early in the season, Altay Bayındır usurped the Cameroon international, and on transfer deadline day, United added Senne Lammens to their ranks.
The development ultimately forced the ex-Inter Milan man to consider a move to Turkey despite his initial desire to stay and fight for his place under Amorim.
In September, Trabzonspor struck an agreement with United to sign Onana in a straight loan deal, without any option or obligation to buy. The Super Lig outfit are also not paying any fee for his services.
As things stand, Onana is due to return to United in the summer of 2026. However, a report suggests he has no future at Old Trafford.
According to Fabrizio Romano, both United and Onana consider his “chapter at the club as almost closed. So it is very difficult to imagine Onana restarting his Manchester United life.”
The Cameroonian is understood to be “quite disappointed” with how things played out in the summer at United.
“So unless something exceptional happens, it is over between Man Utd and Onana,” added the Italian journalist.
Regardless, Onana has not let all the noise and uncertainty impact his start at Trabzonspor. In fact, he has attracted plenty of positive headlines on the back of his first two appearances in Turkey.
The United loanee was named man of the match for his debut display at Fenerbahce, and in the next game, he registered an assist with an incredible long pass against Gaziantep.
“His performance [against Fenerbahce] was enough to make one forget his dark days at United,” read a report in Turkish media outlet Fanatik.
