It’s been a turbulent 18 months for Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana since he joined the club in the the summer of 2023.

Inconsistencies on the pitch haven’t helped his bedding period and now reports have emerged on a horrific off the field incident centred around the Cameroon international’s wife.

As covered by The Mirror, Onana’s partner, Melanie Kamayou was the victim of a robbery after leaving a restaurant in Cheshire at the end of last month.

Kamayou had a high value Hermes Birkin bag stolen from her as well as Rolex watch after dining in the Italian restaurant local to the couples home.

A 25-year-old male appeared before Chester Magistrates Court on Friday where he was charged with the offence.

The pair will hope justice will be done to the individual in order for them to attempt to put the incident behind them and continue to live their life without fear in and around the city.

The shocking incident may yet have an impact on the future of Onana who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after the sacking of Erik ten Hag and his unconvincing form.

Ruben Amorim seems to have bigger issues to resolve in the summer but it’s becoming more evident with each passing week that he will struggle to achieve his ultimate goals with Onana between the sticks.

The 29-year-old has given up goals too easily since joining the club and is likely to be replaced as part of the wider rebuild.

However, until then, Onana will remain United’s number one and everyone connected with the club will no doubt support the former Inter man, particularly through this difficult situation.

Onana is expected to start in the Manchester Derby tomorrow as United attempt to do the double over their noisy neighbours for the first time since the 2019/20 campaign.

A win for United will move them closer to the top half of the Premier League table and would, perhaps more importantly, provide a huge boost before the crucial trip to Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday.
