Porto, led by André Villas - Boas, showed interest in former Benfica pair Carole Costa and Cristina Martín-Prieto, though the interest did not lead to concrete progress.

According to Glorioso 1904, the club assessed both for their Liga BPI debut after promotion to the first division, but the salaries requested curtailed any approach.

Costa, 36, has 191 Portugal caps, and Martín-Prieto scored three goals in nine Benfica outings last season. Both soon set their sights on moves elsewhere.

The required investment sat above plans for this stage of Porto’s women’s project, so the club stepped back from recruiting the pair for the team coached by Daniel Chaves.

Although there was initial interest in keeping them in Portugal, their next moves are likely to be abroad. Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are viewed as the most probable destinations as both leave Benfica at the end of their contracts.
