Andreas Pereira will miss Palmeiras' Copa Libertadores quarter-final first leg against LDU after receiving a two-match suspension.

According to Nosso Palestra, Conmebol has imposed a two-match suspension. Pereira was dismissed during the 1-1 draw with Cerro Porteño at Nubank Parque on 12 August. He was shown a straight red 27 minutes into the second half after officials judged he struck Jorge Morel's arm while trying to shake off a marker.

He served the first game of the ban in the return leg on 19 August in Asunción, which Palmeiras won 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals.

Conmebol's disciplinary tribunal subsequently determined the second match after reviewing the case, citing the match report and deeming the action intentional and a light aggression.

Palmeiras considered seeking to annul the red card in light of recent reviews of similar cases, but decided not to appeal, viewing the incident as a refereeing interpretation with limited chance of success.

The first leg is set for Brazil in the week of nine September. Pereira would be eligible for the return in Quito in the week of 16 September, subject to any Conmebol changes. The confederation is due to publish the official quarter-final schedule on Wednesday 26.
