Andres Iniesta explains why Flick’s Barcelona remains on the right path | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have not had the greatest of starts to the 2025/26 season. After an excellent 2024/25 season, expectations were sky-high, but the performances have left a lot to be desired.

Yes, injuries have certainly not helped Flick’s cause. Almost the entire first-team squad has suffered issues at one point or another, and this has not allowed the coach to establish any continuity.

Club legend Andres Iniesta was asked about the situation Barcelona find themselves in and, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, he was bullish that this is a natural continuation of Flick’s project from last season. He said:

“Flick’s Barcelona is an incredible team because of the way they play and the clarity they have about what they want to do and how they want to do it. I think what we’re seeing now is a continuation of what began last year.”

Iniesta was further probed about how some teams have started adapting to Flick’s high-line tactics and how it is not as effective as it was last season. Here is what he said:

“That’s how football always is: if you play with a certain style, the opponent adapts, and then you have to change again,” he reasoned. “I think that’s precisely what makes football beautiful.”

Iniesta, of all people, knows that adaptation is mandatory for a successful football project. Even during Pep Guardiola’s golden era, the Spaniard had to constantly change his system to surprise opposition teams.

Hansi Flick will also understand this. The German coach has shown himself to be a very astute tactical mind, and he will know exactly what he needs to do to get the right results for the club.

Ultimately, no judgment can be passed about the 2025/26 season until Flick has his first-choice XI on the pitch for a run of games. Let’s hope the injury issues subside and that we can start to enjoy Barcelona on the football field again.
