Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux in the Premier League on Tuesday, thanks to Andre’s last-gasp winner.
Jeremie Frimpong missed an early chance for the visitors, while Dominik Szoboszlai’s long-range effort was gathered by Jose Sa.
Neither goalkeeper was troubled thereafter as the two sides went into the break goalless.
The visitors almost took the lead after the break. Hugo Ekitike flicked Mohamed Salah’s corner to the back post, where Curtis Jones was waiting. However, the ball struck Coady Gakpo and went onto the bar.
Rodrigo Gomes broke the deadlock in the 78th minute after he was found by Tolu Arokodare. He finished past Alisson Becker from an acute angle to give the hosts the lead.
Rio Ngumoha almost responded immediately for the Reds as his low curler speared towards the bottom corner, but Sa tipped his effort to the post.
Sa couldn’t deny Salah from equalising in the 83rd minute. The Egyptian latched onto a loose ball before beating the Portuguese goalkeeper at his near post.
The visitors pushed for a late winner, and Virgil van Dijk squandered a glorious opportunity to give them the lead as Ngumoha found him at the far post. The Dutchman headed his effort straight at Sa.
Andre’s late deflected effort wrong-footed Alisson and handed Wolves an important win.
Wolves recorded a consecutive Premier League victory for the first time this campaign, while Liverpool suffered their ninth league defeat of the season.
