Andrés Sanchez defence seeks delay to Corinthians ethics hearing

Andrés Sanchez’s defence has asked to delay his Corinthians Ethics and Discipline Commission testimony, set for 19:00 on Monday, amid a probe into alleged misuse of the club corporate card in 2018-2020.

According to Meu Timao, the lawyers argue even a videoconference would breach precautionary measures tied to a complaint accepted by the São Paulo court, including a ban on contact with club officials, and want a new date after any easing.

The hearing was set at the defence’s own request, since attendance is optional. His earlier statement to the Deliberative Council’s Justice Commission could therefore underpin the inquiry if no new session occurs.

Despite being arranged last week, the timing was contested only hours before. The Ethics body will demand proof within 24 hours that court permission has been sought, then decide its next step.

The Commission has reviewed full statements, flagging about 50 atypical expenses exceeding R$ 180,000, and ordered explanations and any reimbursement proof. The defence says it still lacks full access to the file.

Separately, in October MP-SP charged Andrés and former finance chief Roberto Gavioli with embezzlement, laundering and falsifying a tax document, though parts were later rejected then suspended amid a recusal bid. A second complaint also failed on laundering and tax counts. Overall, more than 200 expenses across 31 bills from August 2018 to February 2021 are disputed, with R$ 480,000 sought plus 75% in moral damages, totalling R$ 1.1 million.
