Ange Postecoglou appointed new head coach of Al-Nassr | OneFootball

Ange Postecoglou has been named Al-Nassr head coach, returning to the dugout to take charge of a squad led by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club said in a post that he has signed a two-season contract.

Al-Nassr moved quickly for the Australian after Jorge Jesus left having led the side to the league title. The former Premier League manager now takes over in Riyadh.

Postecoglou’s previous job, at Nottingham Forest, lasted 39 days. The 60-year-old failed to win any of his eight matches and was swiftly dismissed, later describing the experience as brutal and saying he left the ground immediately to avoid doing something he would regret.

His track record remains weighty. He ended Tottenham Hotspur’s trophy drought by winning the Europa League against Manchester United in Bilbao, and lifted five trophies with Celtic, including a domestic treble.

Managing Ronaldo, still the focal point of Al-Nassr and the Saudi Pro League, will be his biggest test. After spending the summer as an ITV pundit at the World Cup, Postecoglou now returns to daily coaching with the aim of imprinting his style and chasing more silverware.
