Tottenham remain one point above the relegation zone after home loss to Nottingham Forest

Spurs remain in big trouble as they battle for survival, with Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest doing little to ease fears of dropping into the Championship.

Despite a positive feel around the club following a 1-1 draw away at Liverpool and a 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, Tottenham were stung with a reality check against Forest and they sit just a point above the relegation zone heading into the international break.

Interim head coach Igor Tudor, ultimately, has not been able to get a consistent tune out of the players since replacing Thomas Frank last month and there are rumours of an imminent departure.

Spurs have seven games remaining to preserve their Premier League status. However, their run-in does include matches against teams battling for Europe - such as Brighton, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Everton - as well as a relegation six-pointer at home to Leeds.

Postecoglou, though, has predicted his former club to avoid the drop.

Speaking to Melbourne-based radio station SEN 1116, Postecoglou said: “To watch them struggle has not been easy and it’s not the way I thought it would go.

“They’re in a hell of a fight, relegation is massive for any club but for Tottenham, it’s a pretty big deal.

“They have some fighting to do and they have the quality to get out. They need a circuit-breaker for sure.”

Postecoglou also admitted that he did not enjoy watching Sunday's game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium between his two former clubs.

He added: "I did watch it – I’m still very much invested – particularly in Spurs because of the players and some of the staff there.

“We had two years together, you always have that attachment. If you had have told me in May last year that this would be the scenario of watching two teams I have managed in the last calendar year I would have said ‘no that’s beyond the realms of possibility’.

"I tuned in and I watched. It was an uncomfortable watch, I didn’t enjoy it that’s for sure."
