Aníbal Moreno has confirmed he is leaving Palmeiras for River Plate next season while holidaying in his home city of Catamarca. According to SuperDepor.com, the 26-year-old said the switch is the right choice for him.

He featured in a local charity match, then signalled the move, with the fee around seven million dollars. He will depart Palmeiras in the coming days after a successful spell that included a Copa Libertadores runners-up finish.

Moreno said he has stepped back from his phone to enjoy his break and that he and his representative chose what suits him, his family and his future.

He expressed eagerness for the challenge in Núñez, noted he has prepared well and hopes to join soon, with Marcelo Gallardo coaching the side. River have already added Fausto Vera, and Moreno is set to strengthen a midfield that has been a weak point.

His résumé includes 24 matches and one goal for Newell’s, 125 and eight for Racing, and 117 and four at Palmeiras. Internationally, he debuted for Argentina in October in a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico, playing 45 minutes, and retains the aim of reaching the 2026 World Cup.
