According to an update shared by SPORT, Barcelona have reached full agreement with centre-back Eric Garcia for a contract renewal that will keep him at the club until 2030.
This decision marks a significant shift in the player’s status at the club just months after he was close to leaving.
Garcia’s renewal was not a random decision. It was an express request from manager Hansi Flick, who sees the 24-year-old as a key figure in his tactical plans moving forward.
It is to be noted that while Garcia had limited opportunities last season after returning from a loan spell at Girona, he impressed during the final months of the campaign.
That late-season surge was enough to convince Flick not only to keep him but also to ask for a long-term extension.
Back in January, Garcia’s situation looked very different. Barcelona were considering offloading him, alongside other names, in a bid to ease their tight wage bill.

Girona even made an offer to sign him permanently. However, Flick firmly rejected the idea of letting him go, seeing in Garcia a reliable and multi-functional player who could be crucial in his rotation.
With his previous contract running until 2026, Barcelona took their time before making a definitive decision.
The club’s sporting department delayed formal discussions until the summer, believing there was a mutual desire to continue. That faith has now paid off.
By extending his deal until 2030, Barça are making it clear that Garcia is part of their present and future.
However, this comes with a very delicate caveat in the form of Hector Fort. The young La Masia full-back has been waiting for his opportunity, but considering the competition, he is now likely to move this summer.
