In the next few days, Barcelona should finally be able to finalise the departure of Ansu Fati to Ligue 1 side AS Monaco. The 23-year-old, who scored 12 goals in 30 appearances during the 2025-26 season, has agreed to turn his loan move into a permanent one, although there has been plenty of obstacles to overcome in recent weeks.
Monaco signalled their intention to trigger Fati’s €11m buy option following the conclusion of last season, although a deal has since been negotiated for Barcelona to retain a buy-back clause for the La Masia graduate. On top of this, the process has been held up due to the Monegasque club being unable to agree personal terms with their future player, although they were always confident that a compromise would be found.
Fortunately for Monaco, they have now managed to agree terms with Fati, as per MD. The Barcelona man had been hoping for a similar close to what he’s been earning in Catalonia, but he has since been talked down – and with a tax procedure having also been resolved, the deal is able to move forward once again.

There are only fiscal conditions to be agreed upon, and once these are resolved, a deal to take Fati to Monaco can be finalised. The forward will pen a four-year contract, which will keep him at the Ligue 1 club until the summer of 2030, although this can be bought out by Barcelona at any time over the next 48 months.
It’s clear that Fati has needed to get settled at a club in order to have any chance of recapturing the form he showed when breaking on to the scene as a 16-year-old. He appears to have continuity at Monaco, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on there.
