In a recent meeting with Gaetano Manfredi, the mayor of Naples, Antonio Conte all but confirmed his exit from SSC Napoli.

In a few words, the 56-year-old expressed his affection for the Campania capital, and how he will look back on his time here with fondness.

“Naples has remained with me, it will remain a great memory.

“I have a very strong bond for Naples, a beautiful city, for the first time I experienced the city in full force.”

Reports in recent days have claimed that Conte’s departure from the club is finalised. Despite their nature and the tensions between them, both he and Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis have decided to part way on amicable terms.

No severance fee will need to be put aside for Conte, and that money Napoli can put to use to get his successor. Maurizio Sarri is the name linked most heavily, while Max Allegri has also been touted as a potential candidate.

Napoli mayor Manfredi, in response to Conte, said that the Lecce-born coach will “always be welcome” back in the city, a sentiment he can expect to resonate within the club as well.

Conte himself is being linked with jobs right away. Most prominently, he is reportedly set for a return to the international side of the game with the Italy men’s national team, though no confirmation can be expected on that front until late next month, with the FIGC presidential election scheduled for June 22.
