There has been drama surrounding Antonio Conte and his future at Serie A side Napoli in the last few weeks. The decision is now becoming increasingly clear.
After Napoli’s win over Pisa at the weekend, the italian clarified that he has communicated a decision regarding his future to CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis. He never made it public, adding further suspense.
Now, Sky Italia report that he is leaving Napoli in the summer and that is the widespread perception. The two parties are set to meet at the end of the season after an initial discussion some weeks ago but Conte feels his time is over.
He has massive wages and Napoli can’t match it for another season. Besides, Conte feels this is the right time to part ways on a high and spend some time with his family over the summer. He feels that the cycle at the club is over and he has laid down the foundation for the club’s future as well.
Maurizio Sarri is in line to replace him, with CEO De Laurentiis having clear admiration for him.
Conte has had controversial exits almost everywhere he has managed in recent years. Napoli could be one club that he leaves on his own terms and without causing his reputation harm.
That would make a lot of sense, as he has done quite well in this spell. He won Serie A last season and considering the difficulties, they have had a decent campaign this time around too. It is best for him to part ways when he thinks time is right and on his terms, as it will help him potentially land the next role in a more measured way.
