Antonio Cordón will leave his role overseeing Sevilla’s recruitment at the end of the season after formally submitting his resignation, according to COPE Sevilla.
He has already informed the club’s leadership of his decision. The move comes as Sevilla edges towards a formal change of ownership.
Cordón’s stewardship has sparked debate. Operating under clear financial strain, most of his seven signings, Vlachodimos, Maupay, Mendy, Alexis Sánchez, Azpilicueta, Fabio Cardoso and Suazo, have underwhelmed.
Vlachodimos is the clear success, his form decisive this season. Azpilicueta has stood up when fit, while Alexis Sánchez has been an effective late-game option in the run-in. The rest have made little lasting impression.
In parallel, Sergio Ramos and Five Eleven Capital will become Sevilla’s new owners and are already working to appoint Marc Boixasa as sporting director. The group’s Chief Football Officer, with previous spells at Manchester City, Barcelona and the Saudi league, worked at Sevilla in 2008-2009.
Cordón’s exit could reopen doors in Europe, including AS Monaco. Even so, his most likely next step appears to be in the Americas, with strong interest from a Liga MX club. Further updates will set the club’s course without him at the helm.
