António Silva spent Sunday at a Viseu district match, the Benfica centre-back delighting supporters a day after starting in Arouca.
According to Glorioso 1904, the 22-year-old attended Lusitano Vildemoinhos v Mangualde in the 23rd round of the Viseu Divisão Honra. The hosts lost 1-3.
Born in Penalva do Castelo in the Viseu district, Silva posed for photos shared by Vildemoinhos and was a hit with younger fans. He was nominated for the Cosme Damião Awards Footballer of the Year.
On Saturday, Benfica won 2-1 at Arouca in the 26th round of Liga Portugal Betclic, with Silva in the starting XI. He was booked, which rules him out of the next game against V. Guimarães, and he showed some physical problems that are being re-evaluated by the club.
This season he has ceded some prominence to Tomás Araújo, who has been an increasingly regular partner for Nicolás Otamendi. The defender is not satisfied with his game time, which has been one reason for the delay in finalising his renewal, with his contract running to summer 2027.
Silva, valued at €30 million, has played 35 games and 2,655 minutes for Benfica this term, scoring once, with 19 outings in Liga Portugal Betclic, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal, and one each in the Taça da Liga and the Supertaça.
