Antonio Vergara: Napoli reach agreement over new deal | OneFootball

Serie A side Napoli saw Antonio Vergara impress at the turn of the year and are prepared to keep him at the club for the long term.

In recent months, there have been doubts about the attacker’s future in Naples. Clubs in Italy and England have been keeping tabs on him and there have been suggestions of a formal offer from them too.

But Napoli have acted fast. Gianluca Di Marzio reports that a meeting took place between the Partenopei and Vergara’s entourage today. That was still going on at the point when the updates were released but it became clear that there is a verbal agreement in place for a renewal.

Parties are happy to extend his contract until 2031, with the player also set to increase his wages.

Great decision from player

Considering that Vergara only had a few good weeks in the first-team before injury, moving on would’ve made little sense. He needs to have a longer, consistent spell and next season can be game-changing. Napoli have shown the trust he needed to prove himself and he is now getting an excellent opportunity to reach the next level in his career.
