Antwerp bring in former Gent winger on loan from Basel | OneFootball

Antwerp have announced the signing of Ibrahim Salah on loan from Basel. The former Gent winger joins for the 2026/2027 Pro League season with Antwerp having negotiated a purchase option as part of the deal. The 24-year-old Moroccan winger returns to the top flight of Belgian football having departed for Ligue 1 back in January 2023. Antwerp needed to bring in more attacking reinforcements, having lost a number over the summer with contracts expiring. Salah should prove to be a decent pick up for the Great Old.

Salah began his career with Gent, playing just 21 times for the side before departing. In that time he scored three goals and was signed by Rennes. Salah spent a year and a half with Rennes, playing 47 games and scoring seven goals. For the 2024/2025 season he was loaned out to Brest, playing 21 times and scoring twice. On his return to Rennes, he only managed two appearances before leaving to join Swiss side Basel last summer. Salah played 35 times for Basel, scoring four goals and providing three assists.

So far, the winger has not quite been able to live up to the expectations that were placed upon him when he broke through at Gent. Perhaps a return to Belgium with Antwerp will provide him the opportunities to do so.
