Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has aligned with sporting director Erik Bretos over Álex Remiro’s future, stating the club are not working on an exit and the goalkeeper has not asked to leave.
He delivered the message on Monday during a visit to works on the new Topo vestibule at Anoeta, adding the Cascante-born keeper has a long future at the club, according to AS.
Bretos said last week that Remiro is happy at Real Sociedad and that few players have backed the project as much. He also spoke of a special relationship with the goalkeeper, who arrived without top-flight experience, and played down the significance of him entering the final year of his contract.
Remiro has been linked with interest from several European clubs, including Barcelona and Aston Villa.
The discussion follows a season that was not straightforward for the goalkeeper, with the team’s inconsistency a factor. He missed out on Luis de la Fuente’s final World Cup squad after being cut at the last stage.
