Jeff Stelling has criticised Swansea City and Wrexham’s derby clash from Saturday night.

The two sides played out a 0-0 draw in front of a crowd of just over 20,000 at the Swansea dot com Stadium.

There were a total of 14 shots between the two teams, and just four on targets, with Vitor Matos’ side holding 62 per cent of the possession (all stats from Fotmob).

Swansea created an expected goals (xG) of 0.74, while Phil Parkinson’s side managed only 0.67, in a game that lacked high quality chances.

The biggest chance of the evening fell to Zan Vipotnik in the closing stages, but he was unable to find the back of the net.

It meant that the two sides shared the spoils in the big Saturday evening clash of the weekend in the Championship.

Stelling has claimed that the clash between Swansea and Wrexham was almost his stinker of the weekend, criticising both teams for wasting two hours of his Saturday that he will never get back.

He joked that it reminded him of the Elton John song ‘Saturday night’s alright for fighting,’ but with a brand new title to reflect how boring the game was instead.

“This is going to be stinker of the week in a moment,” said Stelling, via Talksport.

“This could have been Swansea against Wrexham, eight o’clock Saturday night.

“What was that Elton John song called? Oh yeah, ‘Saturday night’s alright for boring the pants off people’.

“It was appalling.

“A Saturday night in my life that I will never get back.”

Swansea and Wrexham’s promotion ambitions

Swansea moved one point clear in top spot as a result of their 0-0 draw with Wrexham on Saturday evening, with five teams equal on 10 points just behind them.

The Swans have won three and drawn two, leaving them with 11 from a possible 15, and they are now one of only two clubs left with an unbeaten record through the first five games.

Matos’ side finished 11th in the Championship table in the previous campaign, nine points adrift of the play-offs.

But this positive start to the new term has given supporters plenty of reason to be optimistic for the year ahead.

Meanwhile, Wrexham are 11th after the draw away to their Welsh rivals, having earned six points from five fixtures.

Parkinson’s side have won just once, drawing three and losing once, as they look to fight for promotion this season.

The Red Dragons narrowly missed out on a top six finish in 2025/26, coming seventh and just two points behind Hull City in sixth.

Next up for Swansea is a trip to face Southampton this evening in a 7.45pm kick-off, while Wrexham host Burnley at the same time.

Swansea and Wrexham earned a point that suits both clubs

Obviously, both Swansea and Wrexham would’ve preferred a win, but at this stage of the season they will both probably be fine with accepting the draw.

It was certainly not the most entertaining game of the weekend, and its billing in the big 8pm game on TV meant it had a certain expectation to uphold that they failed to.

However, neither manager or squad will particularly care about that at the moment, as they will be pleased to have just come away from the game with something.

This won’t be a game we remember when the season comes to a close, that’s for sure, and Wrexham might be the happier of the two sides given they were away from home and didn’t quite have the same quality of chances as the hosts.
