Barcelona have set a new series of targets for their renovation work on Camp Nou. The rebuilding of their stadium has faced numerous delays, and the Catalan side are under financial pressure to complete work as soon as possible.
Not only is every matchday with the reduced capacity coming with an opportunity cost of millions, but the Blaugrana have deadlines to meet in terms of the loans taken out to complete the project. Currently the Spotify Camp Nou is working with a capacity of 62,500, some way short of the 105,000 capacity anticipated at completion.
Currently work is ongoing on the third tier of the stadium. The Blaugrana must have the stadium work completed by July 2028, or sponsors Spotify will have the capacity to unilaterally terminate their naming rights deal, which is worth €20m per annum.
According to MD, Barcelona are aiming to have all seats operational and all of the VIP boxes operational by April of 2027. As happened with the second tier, Barcelona will phase in their use of the third tier. The plan is to increase the capacity to 70,000, opening some seats in the ‘Lateral’ stand opposite ‘Tribuna’ for September 2026.
The Tribuna section will be reopened by the end of 2026 if all goes according to plan, which will raise the capacity to 80,000, with the final 25,000 seats behind both goals to be reopened in the four months subsequent to that.
The installation of the roof requires activity at the stadium to be halted, and as such, will be delayed until the end of the 2026-27 season, with a view to it being completed for October of 2027. Barcelona are not ruling out either a return to Montjuic or the Estadi Johan Cruyff at their training ground during the latter half of that period. As a result, Barcelona are considering increasing the capacity of the Johan Cruyff, should they feel the need to use it. If the delay is longer, then Barcelona will likely return to Montjuic.
