In international football, cooling breaks do not stop the match clock. Any pause is recovered in added time, even as ad breaks have appeared during recent World Cup warm-ups.

L'Équipe notes there will be one cooling break per half at the World Cup. France’s friendly with Northern Ireland paused around the 24th minute despite about 15 degrees in Villeneuve-d'Ascq.

The stoppage became a window for adverts on TF1, a first during a live match in France.

The channel cut away at 24:37 and returned a little over a minute later, when the clock read 25:50.

That lost time was accounted for in stoppage time, with three minutes shown by the fourth official, even though little had happened in the half. A similar pause had occurred days earlier against Côte d'Ivoire, a match France lost 1-2.
