Arne Slot backs Salah’s claim: Dominik Szoboszlai has joined football’s elite | OneFootball

Mohamed Salah and Arne Slot believe Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is one of the world's best footballers right now.

Szoboszlai starred again as Liverpool beat Brighton 3-0 in the fourth round of theFA Cup on Saturday night. The Hungarian scored the second goal at Anfield to continue what has been an outstanding season for the midfielder on Merseyside.

Szoboszlai has scored 10 goals for Liverpool in all competitions, adding seven assists, while he's also deputised to a high standard in unfamiliar roles at right-back and right-wing to combat injuries.

The 25-year-old's excellence has come despite a challenging collective campaign for Liverpool and teammate Salah believes Szoboszlai has now reached elite status.

Asked if Liverpool can win theFA Cup this season, Salah said the club's campaign will hinge on Szoboszlai's performances.

“It will depend on Szoboszlai performance because we rely on him so much this season. He’s among the best players in the world right now. I wish he can carry on like this."

Liverpool boss Slot was asked in his post-match press conference whether he agreed with Salah's sentiment. The Dutchman was keen to reiterate the view that Szoboszlai is now among the world's top players.

"I think there are a lot of very good to elite football players. But I definitely agree with Mo that Dominik is one of them."

Such has been Szoboszlai's level this season, the midfielder has earned comparisons to former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. His all-action performances in the number eight shirt have drawn parallels with Gerrard, but Szoboszlai stressed he wants to create his own story at Anfield.

"I'm not playing a Steven Gerrard season, although he was a legend for the club," he said, as perTNT Sports.
