is leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2025-26 season.

Although most fans expected the Scotsman to exit Anfield after Milos Kerkez was signed in the summer, it still came as a bit of a shock to see the defender confirm that this would be his last year as a Liverpool player.

He's forever etched his name in the Reds' history books and even now, it's unclear whether Liverpool are doing the right thing by getting rid of him.

Indeed, Kostas Tsimikas will return from his season-long loan with Roma at the start of next term but, if Arne Slot wants to be competing for every trophy possible, he needs higher quality players among his ranks.

That's why, with the summer transfer window quickly approaching, many full-backs are already being linked with potential Anfield switches.

Oscar Mingueza could be the perfect replacement for Andy Robertson at Liverpool

Now that a deal for Nico Schlotterbeck has been written off, Slot is going to have to turn his attention elsewhere for defensive cover.

Jorthy Mokio was another name mentioned as potential cover but since he's also extended his contract, that deal is also off the table.

So, with all of these players being taken off the table, it's clear that the Reds may have to get a tad experimental and broaden their horizons when looking for a new left-back.

This is where Celta Vigo's Oscar Mingueza comes in.

A fresh report from TEAMtalk has shared that intermediaries have offered the Spaniard to Liverpool on a free transfer.

The La Liga ace is able to play in both full-back positions and has managed to contribute to seven goals across all competitions.

He's also only 26 years old so, if he did end up joining Liverpool, he'd have plenty of years left in him.

Mingueza would obviously be a back-up to Kerkez which could cause a bit of a problem but, if the Spaniard doesn't mind fighting for his place, the Reds could be onto a winner.

Liverpool need to reinforce their defensive line as soon as possible

One of Liverpool's main problems this season has been the lack of depth among their defence.

Indeed, injuries have played a massive part in their issues but, you'd have expected the club to plan a bit better, especially with how injury prone some of their players actually are.

Both Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley have spent most of their campaign side-lined due to injury with only the odd appearance here and there.

If Slot and Richard Hughes don't manage to add some new faces to their defence this summer, a whole host of problems could be headed their way.

Mingueza is certainly not a household name by any means but the fact that he's available on a free transfer and has already had plenty of experience in one of Europe's top five leagues makes him an excellent candidate for Slot.
