An interesting update from Arne Slot on Alexander Isak.
This comes as Liverpool prepare to return to action this week.
The international break at an end and club football once again having full focus.
Arne Slot quizzed on Friday morning about his plans now for Alexander Isak, with the striker finally now eligible to play for Liverpool.
Very interesting what the Anfield boss had to say.
Arne Slot admitting that the shameful unprofessional behaviour of Alexander Isak across the course of the summer, has now had a serious knock on negative effect, for both Liverpool and the striker himself.
By refusing to train with Newcastle United in recent months and playing no competitive football for almost four months, the Liverpool manager admitting that this means he can’t say when Alexander Isak will be able to play regularly for his new club. This despite paying £130million in a Premier League record deal.
This is one of the busiest parts of the season, with Liverpool playing six games in September, the first of those on Sunday and then the sixth one only 16 days later.
Arne Slot also referencing how Alexander Isak has very likely helped cost any hope for Sweden of making the World Cup finals next summer, as Jon Dahl Tomasson was unable to start the striker in two key World Cup qualifiers this past week, only the final 18 minutes in a desperate move when a clearly far from fit Isak was brought on with Sweden losing 2-0 to Kosovo.
Arne Slot on the impact of Alexander Isak’s unprofessional behaviour at Newcastle United – Friday 12 September 2025:
“Don’t expect him to be playing every single game for 90 minutes on the pitch…
“That’s definitely not going to happen for the next few weeks.
“He missed a proper pre-season.
“He missed three or four months of team sessions.
“So now we have to build him up gradually with us playing so many games and hardly any training time.
“That is going to be a challenge…
“Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson deserves a big compliment because he gets one of the best strikers in the world, maybe the best striker in the world, and needs to play two very important games [in the past week].
“But he understands that if he plays him twice for 90 minutes then probably the player would have been injured for multiple weeks.
“That is not always easy for a manager but he took care of the interest of a player.
