Liverpool manager Arne Slot has moved to dispel doubts over his faith in the squad, insisting he is “completely happy” with his options despite a run of poor form and mounting scrutiny, as reported by BBC Sport.
The Dutchman’s comments come just days after his side’s 3-0 Carabao Cup exit to Crystal Palace, in which a heavily rotated and youthful team failed to impress. Slot’s earlier suggestion that his selection “gave insight” into Liverpool’s lack of depth prompted speculation that frustration was growing behind the scenes.
However, ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa, Slot struck a conciliatory tone. “We miss nothing,” he said. “I am completely happy with the team and with all the quality we have.”
It has been a turbulent autumn for the reigning champions, who have lost six of their last seven matches following a perfect start to the season. They now sit seventh in the Premier League, seven points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
That decline has coincided with a wave of injuries to key figures such as Alisson, Jeremie Frimpong, and Ryan Gravenberch, while record signing Alexander Isak continues to find full fitness after missing pre-season.
Slot, who oversaw a £415m summer rebuild, maintains his belief in Liverpool’s long-term strategy. “When three or four are injured, you go back to 16 players,” he reflected. “Last season we were lucky; this season we have been less so. But my conviction in this team remains absolute.”
