The players that have left Liverpool this season have largely enjoyed success on their other ventures.

Primarily the young loanees - Ben Doak, Lewis Koumas and Owen Beck - have already come on leaps and bounds, with Doak in particular making a case for Liverpool first-team minutes when he returns from Middlesbrough.

Players that were sold have been up and down, with Bobby Clark’s stint at Salzburg not exactly going to plan (but nothing about their season is), whilst Sepp van den Berg is establishing himself well at Brentford.

Brentford also took on Fabio Carvalho from Liverpool after the youngster had been touted as one of the most exciting young players in Europe.

It certainly looked like this was the case after impressing on Liverpool’s pre-season tour. New head coach Arne Slot was already having to deal with squad issues due to players resting after the Euros and Copa America, and so dove deep into his bag.

Carvalho scored against both Arsenal and Manchester United whilst out in the USA and reports followed that he may have been about to finally, substantially, make his way into the first team.

Yet Brentford approached with an offer of up to £27.5m and, ever the astute businessman, sporting director Richard Hughes could hardly turn that down for a player who would be competing for minutes.

Life at Brentford appeared to be going well for Carvalho at the start of the season. He managed to make his way into the starting XI by the end of September, getting an assist against West Ham and a goal in just 14 minutes against Wolves.

But since then, things have seemingly turned sour. The Portuguese midfielder has only played 29 league minutes in the past month, his only start coming in a League Cup game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Carvalho's post-Liverpool dream turns to a nightmare

He remained on the bench as Brentford searched for a goal against Everton at the weekend.

And, subsequently, he now has his dad publicly saying he needs to leave the club after just three months.

On Brentford’s post-game Instagram post about the 0-0 result with Everton, Carvalho’s dad said “Son you need to get out that club”.
