Hungary international Aron Csongvai has signed for AS Saint-Étienne until 2030, becoming their fifth addition after a productive season in Sweden.

On the club’s website, sporting director Loïc Perrin said the 25-year-old defensive midfielder should bring power and reliability, while Csongvai described the move as a great opportunity and said he aims to adapt quickly and build connections on and off the pitch.

Born in Budapest and developed at Ujpest, he spent six years there from under-17s to the first team, playing 104 matches. After 66 games across two seasons with Fehérvar, he joined AIK in 2025. Last term he featured 52 times across the league, Swedish Cup and Conference League qualifiers, scoring four and supplying four, and he often took set pieces. He won his first senior Hungary cap in 2025 against Sweden.

He will wear number 14 for Les Verts. He follows Sohaib Naïr, Jakob Breum, Mamour Ndiaye and Thierno Ballo as this summer’s recruits. His profile appears well suited to Ligue 2, physically and mentally.

Head coach Ian Cathro should get a clearer look at his squad on Saturday at 18:00 in Geneva against Servette behind closed doors, before another outing on Wednesday in Glasgow.
