Arrascaeta backs Everton Ribeiro to become a coach | OneFootball

Arrascaeta says Everton Ribeiro will become a coach, tipping the Bahia midfielder for a bright future off the pitch.

"He is going to be a coach. Baixola, Everton Ribeiro's nickname, if you need an assistant coach, I will be around," said Arrascaeta in an interview with SofaScore.

The pair played together for Flamengo from 2019 to 2023 and became close. Everton Ribeiro, 37, is in his third year at Bahia and has not set a retirement date. His deal runs until the end of 2026, and the club have plans for him to move into a board role once he stops playing.

In 2025 two members of Flamengo's 2019 side shone on the coaching staff, head coach Filipe Luís and assistant Rodrigo Caio. Arrascaeta now floats the idea of teaming up with Everton Ribeiro.

Together they won two Libertadores, two Brasileirões, one Copa do Brasil, the Recopa and two Supercopas. Alongside Bruno Henrique and Gabigol, they formed the 'quarteto fantástico' cherished by Flamengo fans.

For Flamengo's match against Coritiba at the Maracanã on Saturday 30, their shared position is the squad's biggest gap. With Arrascaeta and Lucas Paquetá on international duty, Leonardo Jardim may improvise with Luiz Araújo or choose Saúl. Kick-off is 16:00 Brasília time.
