Arrascaeta is one match from equalling Flamengo’s foreign appearance record, but may have to wait for it. The Uruguayan visits Red Bull Bragantino in the Brasileirão on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time.
According to Globo.com, he is unlikely to start after a long trip back from international duty, though he could feature from the bench.
If he gets on, the No 10 will draw level with Modesto Bría as the most used foreigner in club history. Bría played 369 times between 1943 and 1953. Arrascaeta has 368 appearances since 2019, with 101 goals and 110 assists.
He started the first match of the window against England and played 93 minutes, then on Tuesday he was withdrawn in stoppage time of a 0-0 with Algeria in Italy. He will be back in time for Flamengo’s game, will be assessed, and could be spared to manage fatigue. The club had seven players called up.
Arrascaeta has stacked up honours at Flamengo. Alongside Bruno Henrique, he is the club’s most decorated player with 17 titles. He also became the club’s top-scoring foreigner last year on 101 goals, and leads the Brasileirão for assists with 83 since the CBF began tracking the metric.
