Gabriel Martinelli arrived in London in 2019 as a promising prospect from Brazilian minnows Ituano. At just 18, he surprised many in his first few seasons, earning a place in Arsenal’s starting XI with his pace and goalscoring ability.
His performances during the 2022/23 campaign confirmed him as a vital player, scoring 15 league goals. However, expectations have risen since then and, while he remains an important player in the squad, his most recent performance has left opinions divided. Talks surrounding his future have intensified as the summer transfer window approaches.
According to The Athletic (22 May), Arsenal would be willing to sell the Brazilian if an interesting offer comes in. James McNicholas reported that the Gunners have set a price tag in excess of £50m for the winger. He also revealed that Martinelli is considering a move to only a select group of clubs, which could complicate his exit.

Former scout Mick Brown also pointed out in Football Insider (13 May) that the club would be open to listening to offers. Despite being under contract until 2027, with an option for a further year, there has been no progress on a renewal.
The decision to listen to offers for Martinelli does not look far-fetched. Although he is still young, his level has not developed as expected after that outstanding season. Eight goals in 32 games do not justify the status of undisputed starter. If a top club comes up with a figure in the region of 60 million, it could represent a good deal.
With that money, the Gunners would have room to sign a more quality winger or even strengthen key areas such as midfield. Moreover, such decisions send a clear message: no one’s place is guaranteed if he is not performing at his best.
On the other hand, losing a player like Martinelli could weaken the squad in terms of attacking options. His speed and energy are still valuable in certain games, especially against open defences. But if the coaching staff feels his ceiling has been reached, then perhaps the time is right for a sale. Sometimes parting ways helps both sides find new momentum.
