Bukayo Saka is hungry to make up for lost time with England and impress boss Thomas Tuchel.

The Arsenal winger has made just one appearance for the Three Lions since Tuchel took charge at the start of this year.

Saka has been hit by hamstring injuries, which forced him to miss both the March and September international breaks.

However, the 24-year-old is in the squad for next week’s friendly against Wales and England’s World Cup qualifier in Latvia five days later - and he is ready to make his mark.

“I’m really happy to be back playing for England,” said Saka. “I’ve missed a lot of fixtures under Thomas Tuchel, which I’m not happy with, a lot of them due to injuries.

“I’m really happy that I get a chance to come back to St George’s Park and train with the team, play with the team. I’m looking forward to it.”

Saka will be particularly pleased to be in the England squad given that Tuchel has left big players out for this latest camp, including Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham.

Saka is back in, though, and he managed to come through Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Ham unscathed despite taking a few knocks.

“It’s part of it,” he said. “I have blood on my hand, my nose is bleeding, my shorts are all bloody. Then after they say that I’m limping.

“It’s a compliment [getting fouled]. As a creative player, a winger that wants to dribble, you’re going to get kicked.

“It’s up to you. You have a choice. Do you get on with it or do you go down? I always make the choice to continue.”
