Arsenal Begin New Era with 2-1 Victory Over Crystal Palace

Champions Celebrate at Selhurst Park

Arsenal’s first outing as Premier League champions carried all the hallmarks of celebration rather than tension. Selhurst Park was wrapped in sunshine, songs and expectation as Mikel Arteta’s side defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 to continue a remarkable campaign that has finally brought the title back to north London.

With Arsenal already crowned champions and Crystal Palace focused firmly on their upcoming Conference League final, the contest unfolded with an unusual calmness. Drinks breaks interrupted play in the London heat, while heavily rotated line ups gave the afternoon the feeling of a summer exhibition rather than a fiercely contested league encounter.

Yet Arsenal still demonstrated the qualities that have defined their season, composure, organisation and clinical moments in both penalty areas.

Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring shortly before half time after earlier missing two promising chances. The Brazilian forward remained patient and sharp, eventually guiding home with precision to reward Arsenal’s dominance.

Madueke Adds Finishing Touch

Arsenal tightened their grip on proceedings early in the second half when Noni Madueke struck from another expertly delivered set piece. The winger reacted quickly inside the box to convert from a trademark Arsenal corner routine, continuing a pattern that has become central to Arteta’s tactical evolution this season.

Madueke’s contribution will particularly please Arsenal supporters ahead of the Champions League final. There was brief concern when the England international later departed with what appeared to be a hamstring issue, although initial signs suggested the problem may not be serious.

Arteta’s willingness to rotate also provided another historic moment for the club. Midfielder Max Dowman became the youngest player ever to start a Premier League match at just 16 years and 144 days old. It was a reminder that Arsenal’s success has been built not only on established stars, but also on trust in emerging talent.

The travelling support hardly needed another reason to celebrate. Having waited 22 years for another league title, Arsenal fans arrived long before kick off, turning Selhurst Park into part football match and part coronation ceremony.

Palace Attention Turns to Europe

Crystal Palace approached the afternoon with understandable caution. Oliver Glasner’s side have far bigger priorities ahead, with a Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano now dominating attention.

This league campaign has been inconsistent for Palace, but survival was secured comfortably and European football has transformed the mood around the club. Glasner, preparing to leave at the end of the season, has already guided Palace to unprecedented heights by delivering major silverware and establishing belief throughout the squad.

There was also an emotional return for Eberechi Eze, whose move from Palace to Arsenal has proved hugely successful. The England international received a warm reception from home supporters who still regard him with enormous affection after his FA Cup final heroics last season.

Palace eventually found a response late on when Jean Philippe Mateta flicked in Yeremy Pino’s inviting cross. For a brief moment, the home crowd sensed an unlikely comeback when Pino fired home deep into stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out because Evann Guessand had interfered from an offside position.

Arteta Vision Growing Stronger

Arsenal’s victory may not have carried major significance in the table, but it represented another step in the development of a side that now looks capable of sustained success.

After three consecutive second placed finishes, Arteta finally guided Arsenal back to the summit. More importantly, this title feels built on foundations capable of enduring. Arsenal finished seven points clear of Manchester City and combined defensive resilience with growing maturity across the campaign.

Arteta spoke before the game about his players needing to “wear the shirt differently” now they are champions. His team already appear comfortable with that responsibility.

This 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace was another reminder that Arsenal are no longer chasing history. They are now setting new standards of their own.
