Arsenal are reportedly considering John Stones as a possible signing this summer.

The England defender is currently a free agent after leaving Manchester City following the expiration of his contract.

And The Sun say Stones has been identified as a potential short-term option if William Saliba’s back injury proves to keep him out for a while.

Saliba was forced off in France’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain, and admitted he has been playing through the pain at the tournament.

Whether Saliba is set for a spell on the sidelines is yet to be confirmed, but Stones’ fellow England defender Ezri Konsa is also being considered by the Gunners.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s former top target Morgan Rogers is closing in on his £117m move to Chelsea from Aston Villa, having arrived at the club to undergo his medical.

But Villa have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes from Wolves.

Manchester United have added 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson, paying a guaranteed £4m plus £4m in possible add-ons to Spurs for the youngster.

Roma’s £39m offer for West Ham forward Crysencio Summerville has been rejected, Sky Sports say.
