Arsenal edge past Mansfield to reach quarters | OneFootball

Eberechi Eze scored the winner as Arsenal overcame a determined Mansfield Town side to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-1 victory.

Despite the gap between the teams, the League One hosts made life difficult for the Premier League leaders and created several chances early on. Rhys Oates and Louis Reed both tested Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Tyler Roberts fired narrowly wide during a lively first half.

The Premier League leaders eventually found the breakthrough just before the interval. Gabriel Martinelli worked space on the left before picking out Noni Madueke on the edge of the area, and the winger curled a superb effort into the top corner.

Nigel Clough's side responded soon after the restart. A misplaced pass from youngster Marli Salmon allowed substitute Will Evans to intercept, and he finished calmly past Arrizabalaga to bring the hosts level.

Mikel Arteta reacted by introducing Eze from the bench, and the midfielder made the difference in the 66th minute. Collecting the ball outside the box, he fired a powerful strike into the top corner to restore Arsenal’s lead.

The Stags continued to push in the closing stages, but Arsenal held firm to secure their place in the last eight of the competition.
