Arsenal are favourites to be crowned Premier League champions this season.
That was the view of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah when asked about the Gunners’ title chances at the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) awards event on Tuesday night.
Under Mikel Arteta, the north London outfit have finished runners-up three seasons in a row, twice to Manchester City and most recently to Liverpool.
In an attempt to finally get their hands on the Premier League trophy, Arsenal have spent close to £200million in the summer transfer window to bolster the squad.
The arrival of Viktor Gyokeres is seen by many as final piece in the jigsaw given his goalscoring record over the past two campaigns, but it’s the continuity across the squad that, in Salah’s opinion, gives Arsenal the edge in the title race.
He said to presenter Cecil Thomas, who is an Arsenal supporter: "I think you have a great team this season as you did last season. So, you have really good chance.
"I think you are the favourite now because you players who have been together for five years.
“I can’t say I’ll wish you luck – hopefully we do it again."
Both Arsenal and Liverpool won across the opening weekend of the new Premier League season. The Gunners battled to victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, while Arne Slot’s side overcame Bournemouth in a six-goal thriller.
Gameweek two sees Arsenal host Leeds at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday before the Reds face Newcastle away from home on Monday night in a fixture that now has extra spice given the Alexander Isak transfer saga.
Salah was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year at the gala, adding the Premier League Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards he previously scooped.
