Arsenal Handed Transfer Lifeline for Winger, But Will They Capitalise?

Many Arsenal fans are hopeful the Gunners will dip into the market again before it closes in just under two weeks. The signing of a left winger still ranks highly, and Arsenal have seemingly been offered the opportunity to secure a long-term target.

The absence of fringe players such as Fabio Vieira, Reiss Nelson and Oleksandr Zinchenko against Manchester United suggests the club is accelerating their departures before the window closes. Offloading such players has become a prerequisite to making another signing. While reports suggest the Gunners remain safe to spend further with regards to financial regulations, the size of the current squad means sales are necessary. Given the club’s self-sustainability ethos, Arsenal will also be aiming to spend within their means. Fans will nevertheless hope they can take advantage of a market opportunity, one that could strengthen the left flank significantly.

Lookman opportunity emerges

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman is now available for a move. Romano reported that Inter Milan will communicate their desire to end talks with the player’s agent. Following the stall in negotiations with Atalanta, the Nerazzurri are ready to call off a move and end their pursuit of the Nigerian international. This would bring an end to one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer. Areta urged to make a move for Ademola Lookman.

The Milan club have pursued the player for much of the window, with Lookman even handing in a transfer request to force a move. This was followed by a damning statement directed at Atalanta. The player’s relationship with his club is now fractured beyond repair, and with a move to Inter out of reach, Arsenal may have a perfect opportunity to swoop for the 27-year-old. A deal will not be straightforward, but with moves for Eberechi Eze and Rodrygo now unlikely, Arsenal should consider acting quickly.

Arsenal’s left-flank problem

The Gunners’ issues on the left flank were evident once again against United. Neither Gabriel Martinelli nor new-recruit Noni Madueke, introduced in the second half, were able to provide the desired impact. While the entire team underperformed in that encounter, it does not mask the fact that Arsenal need more firepower on the left side of attack.

Should Lookman be made a priority signing in the closing stages of the transfer window?
