Arsenal continue to navigate a defining stretch of the season with cautious optimism around their fitness situation. The latest Arsenal injury update points to gradual improvement, even as key absences still shape selection decisions.
Defeat to Manchester City represented a setback in the Premier League title race, yet there were signs of recovery within the squad. Martin Odegaard returned to action, Declan Rice was fit enough to start, and Noni Madueke featured, albeit briefly. These incremental steps matter as Arsenal attempt to maintain momentum across multiple fronts.
The most significant issue remains the absence of Bukayo Saka. Arsenal’s attacking focal point has missed the last four matches with an Achilles injury, and uncertainty continues to surround his return.

Mikel Arteta offered a measured update. “Bukayo is out,” he said ahead of the Manchester City game. “That is for sure.”
When pressed further, Arteta added: “He’s just starting to do some stuff so let’s see that progression, how quickly we can go through it and then wait.
“But at the moment it’s not available.”
That timeline places Saka as a doubt for the upcoming fixture against Newcastle, a match that could prove decisive in the broader context of Arsenal’s season. His absence has been felt not only in output, but in the rhythm of Arsenal’s attacking play.
There is a similar degree of uncertainty around Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori. Both remain sidelined, leaving Arsenal short of defensive depth at a critical stage.
Timber has not featured for over a month following an ankle injury sustained against Everton. The issue forced him to withdraw from international duty and has ruled him out of the last six matches.

Arteta acknowledged the situation when discussing potential returns. “Some players are quite close but the turnaround is short.
“We will try [on Saturday] to push everybody and if they are in good position, they will be part of [the game against Man City].
“If not they won’t, like they haven’t been in the last few weeks unfortunately.”
Calafiori’s situation is less clear. After completing 90 minutes against Sporting earlier in April, he has not been seen since. The lack of clarity around his condition adds another layer of uncertainty, particularly with limited time between fixtures.

Amid the concerns, there is encouraging news regarding Mikel Merino. The midfielder is progressing well following surgery on a foot injury sustained in January, and signs suggest a return before the end of the season is possible.
Merino has been absent for 19 matches, a prolonged spell that initially raised doubts about his involvement again this campaign. However, recent images from the training ground show him without protective equipment, indicating significant progress.

That development offers Arsenal another option in midfield as the schedule intensifies. Depth in that area could prove vital as fatigue becomes a factor.
The latest Arsenal injury news reflects a squad in transition between limitation and recovery. Key players are edging closer, yet not fully available, creating a delicate balance for Arteta.
Selection decisions over the coming weeks will be shaped by both necessity and opportunity. Arsenal’s ability to manage these returns effectively may define how their season concludes.
With Newcastle next, the focus remains on readiness. For Arsenal, the challenge is to convert improving fitness into consistent performance, ensuring that progress off the pitch translates into results on it.
