Gabriel, David Raya and Declan Rice have been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award, while Mikel Arteta is also in contention for Manager of the Season after a campaign that has taken Arsenal to close to the league title.

The three Arsenal players are part of an eight-man shortlist for the 2025/26 award.

The other five nominees are Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, Brentford forward Igor Thiago, United moaner-in-chief Bruno Fernandes, Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White and Antoine Semenyo, who has played for both Bournemouth and City either side of January.

Arsenal have not had a winner of the award for 20 years. Patrick Vieira became the first Arsenal player to claim it in 2000/01, Freddie Ljungberg followed a year later and Thierry Henry won it twice, in 2003/04 and 2005/06.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the current holder and is nowhere near the list after a relatively poor final season at Anfield.

Supporters’ votes will be added to those of a panel of experts, with voting open until 12pm on Monday, May 18.

Arteta’s nomination comes after guiding Arsenal to 24 wins and seven draws from 36 league games and topping the table for the entire season, apart from one week.

The last Arsenal manager to win the prize was Arsene Wenger, who received it in 2004 after the Invincibles season.

Arteta is one of six managers nominated this year, alongside five-time winner Pep Guardiola, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Brentford’s Keith Andrews and, bizarrely, United interim manager Michael Carrick
