Arsenal are weighing up a move for Eli Junior Kroupi as they navigate a complicated pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
The Bournemouth forward is admired at the Emirates, offering an alternative should their primary striker targets prove unattainable. Both feature on a wide-ranging attacking shortlist.
The Alvarez situation remains far from straightforward. Ben Jacobs reports sporting director Andrea Berta is in contact with the Argentine’s former club, Atletico Madrid, though the player has made no secret of his desire to join Barcelona. That preference complicates any Arsenal approach.
Atletico’s stance adds another layer. The Spanish side do not wish to sell, but are more inclined to do business with a club outside La Liga, which could work in Arsenal’s favour. Barcelona, however, have not ruled out a fresh bid of their own.
There is a potential financial route, too. Provisions reportedly allow select Champions League clubs to sign Alvarez for less than his €500m release clause, offering a glimmer of hope to suitors.
Kroupi represents a younger, more attainable option. The 19-year-old impressed for Bournemouth last season and is rated highly across Europe, with Tottenham among the other clubs keen. Bournemouth, though, hope to keep him for at least another year.
Arsenal’s interest reflects a clear need up front. Arteta wants greater firepower after his side’s title win, and is exploring several profiles to strengthen his forward line.
Bradley Barcola is another name on the list. Arsenal retain an appreciation of the PSG winger, but Liverpool are currently the more active party, with Paris potentially open to a sale later in the window.
