Gunners trio omitted from squad in Cardiff as Man City leave out Savinho
All three players were omitted from the 20-man group named by Arteta for Sunday’s annual season curtain-raiser between the Premier League champions and FA Cup holders, taking place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
Martinelli’s camp have informed Arsenal that the winger has no interest in joining Turkish club Galatasaray following a bid in the region of £38million that was tabled last week, but the Gunners are still looking for an exit for the Brazilian.
Like Martinelli, he travelled with his team-mates to Cardiff before being omitted from Arteta’s matchday squad.
“Ethan needs to play football,” Arteta said of Nwaneri at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“If he stays here, it's because we can guarantee that he can have those minutes. Otherwise, it's just something that is not good for anybody, I think.”
Reiss Nelson is also not involved for Arsenal against City as West Ham look to complete a move for his services, while Fabio Vieira is similarly expected to leave permanently before the September 1 transfer deadline, and young goalkeeper Tommy Setford could go out on loan.
New signing Illan Meslier has also been left out by Arteta, with Kepa Arrizabalaga remaining the primary back-up for first-choice ‘keeper David Raya.
William Saliba and Jurrien Timber are both injured, while Marli Salmon’s impressive pre-season displays have not been enough to earn the 16-year-old defender a spot on the bench for the Community Shield.
Meanwhile, Savinho does not feature at all in the City squad named by new boss Enzo Maresca to face Arsenal having dealt with illness this week.
Standard Sport understands he is interested in joining Tottenham and transfer talks have been ongoing since the start of the summer.
