Arsenal have had a mixed Premier League campaign, and they are 15 points behind leaders Liverpool following their 1-1 draw against Manchester United on the road.
The Gunners have a game in hand versus Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium this weekend, but it seems highly unlikely that they will recover the deficit to win the league title.
The club still have everything to play in the Champions League, but they remain underdogs and require a monumental effort to go all the way to lift the European crown.
Manager Mikel Arteta should be backed with a big spending spree this summer, and Daily Trust in Nigeria claim that the Gunners have begun the process of signing Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
A deal worth £62 million has been agreed to bring him to the Gunners.
Arsenal have lacked a regular goalgetter in the squad. Kai Havertz netted 15 goals this season before his injury, but his form was inconsistent. He was prone to squandering big chances.
In Osimhen, the Gunners would have a more reliable figure to lead the attack. The 26-year-old has amassed 23 goals and five assists from just 29 games for Galatasaray on loan this term.
The Nigerian ace is more of a traditional striker, which is exactly what the Gunners require. There have been many instances this campaign where Havertz has been out of position.
Osimhen’s positional sense would make him an ideal fit to capitalise on the chances created from the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard among others.
The former Lille man, described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Jose Mourinho, has an impressive shot-to-goal conversion rate of almost 20 percent.
He has also excelled with his pressing and ability to hold-up play with his duel-winning skills.
Osimhen would be a ready-made striker with his vast experience. We won’t be surprised if Arsenal are working behind the scenes to sign him as soon as the transfer window reopens.
