Werder Bremen boss Horst Steffen believes that Arsenal loan star Karl Hein can excel, as he lines the Estonia international up for his debut against Bayern Munich tonight.
The 23-year-old, who has been on Arsenal’s books since 2018, has just one senior appearance for the London-based side to his name so far.
Hein has been sent out on three separate loan spells, though, and has earned first-team experience in the Championship and La Liga with Reading and Real Valladolid, respectively.
Now at Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, he is awaiting his first chance for the German club.
It is set to arrive this evening, though, in the absence of Steffen’s first-choice goalkeeper, Mio Backhaus.
The 21-year-old is currently sidelined with a shoulder injury and that is set to open a window of opportunity for the Arsenal loanee to make his mark and stake his claim away at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
Expressing his confidence in the player, Steffen is sure that the Arsenal goalkeeper is up to the task.
“He can excel”, Steffan was quoted as saying by German magazine Kicker.
The manager also took time to tell the player what the expectations of him at the Allianz Arena are going to be.
“We need a few saves”, Steffen added.
Hein could be set for a tough night away at Bayern Munich as the Bavarians have beaten Werder Bremen 3-0 and 5-0 in their last two meetings.
Werder Bremen also head into the game on the back of a 3-0 loss at home against Freiburg, while Bayern Munich thrashed Hoffenheim 4-1.
