Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta insists the club are ‘very prepared’ to take the next steps under a new sporting director, with rumours the Gunners are close to appointing Andrea Berta.
Having fallen off the pace in the Premier League this season, Arsenal are ready for a big summer spend led by their new chief and there is plenty of excitement surrounding the appointment of former Atletico Madrid sporting director Berta.
Arteta refused to go into detail about the next appointment but says the lengthy process has Arsenal ready for their next challenges.
“It’s been a process that the club believe was the right thing to do,” Arteta spoke ahead of the return leg against PSV tomorrow.
“Once they are ready and they believe that it’s the right moment to make that public, they will do it and I will work from that but the club is very prepared for the next steps.”
Asked whether he is bracing himself for a big summer of change at the Emirates, Arteta responded: “Every summer there are things you can predict and other things that probably happen that are not on the table right now.
“But I have full belief that our squad, when it’s fully fit, is very, very strong. We know the capacity that sometimes we have as well to do certain things.
“We know what is ideal. You cannot have everything sometimes that you want because you have to respect that there are other things that are limiting you.”
Arsenal have scored just one Premier League goal in their last three matches but stunned Europe by scoring seven in Eindhoven last week and Arteta has reaffirmed his claims that the Gunners can mix it with the very best teams, despite injuries to key players.
Reminded that Arsenal are potentially just six wins away from winning the Champions League, Arteta replied: “We’ve done a lot and probably the most exciting part is coming up right now.
“Tomorrow we have to make sure we finish the job in the way that we want to do, to put ourselves in a great position to go again.”
Asked whether he believes Arsenal are capable of beating any of teams left in the competition, Arteta added: “Yes, but after you have to do it. We’ve been extremely consistent in the competition, we’ve been very good and now we have to continue that.
“I have full belief as well that we can compete against any team, getting the best out of ourselves and controlling every detail.”
